Kibumba Tented Camp is composed of 18 traditional safari style tents, all of which contain en-suite bathrooms, running hot water and flush toilets. The electricity is supplied by Virunga Energies’ Matebe hydroelectric plant, which provides a permanent source of power. Plugs across the camp are standard EU round two-pin power outlets.
Beyond gorilla trekking, visitors can take part in nature and birding walks in the forest that surrounds Kibumba. A number of endemic bird species call the Virungas their home and a troupe of Golden Monkeys has also been spotted regularly in the area.
The climate in Kibumba is fair. During the day the temperature averages 65 degrees F/18 degrees C to 70 degrees F/21 degrees C but during the cold season (July and August) the temperature can drop by 10 degrees.
